Latest from Australia - Victoria child protection in crisis: report
by sizemik incheck the following links .
the storm isn't over for wts.. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-02-28/victoria-child-protection-in-crisis-report/3858454.
people working in religious organisations should be legally required to report suspected sexual or physical abuse of a young person by members in that group, except if that information is received during confession, the report says.. an investigation should also be launched into how religious groups respond to child abuse perpetrated by people within their ranks.. http://news.brisbanetimes.com.au/breaking-news-national/overhaul-child-protection-in-vic-inquiry-20120228-1u0j6.html.

Glad to help, Sizemik. How is the writing coming along? (you mentioned you were thinking of writing on this theme?)

Thanks everyone. Meditation and prayer to a 'God' can both have equally good psychological effects, it seems.

Theists, why does God allow suffering..
by The Quiet One in..specifically, the suffering of animals.
you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.
i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

POOPSIECAKES+COFTIE: Thanks for keeping this going, I just lost the will.. I don't think that we're dealing with an adult here (bioflex). ROBDAR: I'm questioning the belief in a loving God designing creatures that cause each other to suffer. I can agree with people who believe there's a Creator who doesn't care for individual creatures.. But I can't feel any warmth towards a God that designs living beings to tear each other apart/poison/eat from the inside out etc.. I appreciate your point about the snake having a defense, but can I assume that you wouldn't be phased at all by seeing a rabbit being poisoned/crushed to death/eaten alive by a snake? I doubt that you could feel nothing.. Does God have less empathy for animals than you or I ? (I'm not trying to be inflammatory, honestly.) Thanks for the reply.

Yes bioflex.. I THINK ANIMAL PAIN IS BAD. Is that simple enough for you? "suf·fer [ suhf -er] - verb (used with or without object) 1. to undergo (pain, loss, etc.) http://m.dictionary.com/d/?q=suffering&o=0&l=dir

BIOFLEX: This thread is discussing animal suffering, not vegetables. If you don't know the meaning of the word suffering, use a dictionary. How you can be so arrogant as to declare that we are hypocrites who don't care about animals, when you don't know what I or anyone else in this thread has done to support animal charities, for instance, is beyond me. Is there evidence that vegetables suffer when sliced? If so.. you must believe, from what you have said, that God designed them to feel pain and then gave them to man/animals to eat. Do you even see how much worse you are making your God look?

I know what the faithful Israelites would have replied (according to the Bible). Reminds me of when a Jw essentially said to me ' How can some of these extremists go out and kill people and believe God is okay with that? '. To which I replied ' Well, the Israelites did... '

Interesting responses from different points of view.. That's what we have here on Jwn, Londo, don't let anyone make you feel inferior. Thanks everyone.
